Overview

Modern Mummification® is a burial option that can be easily integrated into the traditional services your funeral home provides and to which your families have become accustomed.

Time Capsule

The following is an outline of the process and how your funeral home can participate:

  • In accordance with the individual's or family's pre-arranged directions, once the individual has passed away, his or her body is transported to your funeral home. There, it is prepared for traditional viewing and funeral services in the following manner:

    • Prior to embalming, you will consult with us as to the appropriate arterial fluid to use. If possible, we prefer that no fluid containing formaldehyde or any other aldehyde be used. This way, the fluid preserves the body in a manner best suited for our process. The fluid will still need to meet the industry's need for preservation and disinfection.
    • In mummification, it is important to maintain the integrity of the internal organs. Instead of using a trocar to aspirate and inject cavity fluids to treat the internal organs, your funeral home will eviscerate the deceased's organs and treat them in a separate container using a methanol based cavity fluid. This will prevent the organs from becoming mutilated which occurs when using a trocar.*
  • Following the funeral services, you transport the body to Summum's sanctuary in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Summum's Thanatogeneticists continue with further treatment of the body and organs and conduct the Mummification of Transference. The process will take from 90 to 120 days to complete.
  • Once the Mummification is completed, the body is hermetically sealed within a sculpted Mummiform®. If the individual chose a casket in place of the Mummiform, the body is sealed within a capsule case which in turn is sealed within a suitable full couch burial casket.
  • The Mummiform or casket is transported back to your funeral home.
  • The Mummiform or casket is then laid to rest in a sanctuary, mausoleum, or burial grave. The body will now remain in a preserved state indefinitely.
